High Water Tables and Septic System Perimeter Drains

Perimeter drains around septic systems are becoming more common in new housing developments as Indiana's urban fringe expands into more rural agricultural areas. Little information is available about how well these drains lower the water table. This publication discusses soil oxidation states, soil color, water tables, and problems that may occur from using perimeter drains.
