Pesticide Benefits Assessment

Under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), OPP is required to consider the benefits that pesticides provide to the United States public. Benefits assessments measure the potential economic impact of EPA's regulatory decisions. The information contained in a benefits assessment allows EPA to compare risk mitigation strategies to the effects of each strategy on the user and to the public. EPA balances risks and benefits during its evaluation and considers mitigation options short of cancellation.
