Amphibians are integral to our ecosystem as predators, as a food resource, and as ecological indicators for water pollution and habitat quality. And currently, amphibians face increasing disease challenges, especially from pathogens called ranaviruses. Because they are spreading, this publication gives an overview of ranaviurses and their effects on amphibians - and urges biologists and others to take an active role in helping track these diseases to preserve Indiana amphibians.
