Earthworms are an important component of many healthy, productive soils; they improve soil porosity and tilth by their feeding, casting, and burrowing activity. Earthworms may be particularly important in no-till or other conservation tillage systems for improving soil structure and mixing organic matter and nutrients into the soil.
