Parenting Piece by Piece

This is a curriculum outline for a series of eight to 10 parenting education sessions for parents who have been mandated to attend training because they are physically or emotionally abusive and/or neglectful parents. Each session includes a detailed lesson plan and handouts (in English and Spanish) for the participants. This 2009 edition has been adapted for use with incarcerated parents and other high-risk groups. The package includes a CD containing all the curriculum materials, plus a DVD with a 6-minute video clip. The authors recommend that facilitators have extensive experience working with adults in high-risk situations and be familiar with the characteristics of abusive and neglectful parents.
