Description

Composting of dead poultry is a natural process where beneficial bacteria and fungi convert organic material into a useful end product called compost. If properly done, no offensive odor is created from the process, and it is safe and can be used as fertilizer. This publication provides diagrams for building a composter; it tells how to load a composter; and it tells how to compost poultry. Possibilities exist for composting pig carcasses. Composting has been shown to be a safe, effective, and non-time consuming method of dead bird disposal. Any producer can use the process. And in addition, composting is inexpensive. The publication provides an extended selected reference list for further research on the topic.
